You know the shelf that sits, very very unprettily, just north of the c-section scar line? I didn't.
It is not one of those good surprises.
Apparently, when one is, ahem, of a certain size, the incision and scar from a c-section somehow manages to take all the accumulated lower belly fluff and hoist it upwards. Where it sits, atop the scar, in a shelf/overhang formation, defying gravity, let alone lesser attempts to (re)move it. Seriously, did you people know about this? If you must have a visual reference, try here.
I think I have talked about this before but who knows, it's been so damn long. Like so many of us, I went from a little on the curvy side to downright plumpish during my IF journey.* And then, of course, a cheese-laden pregnancy, four months of bedrest, pre-eclampsia swelling and so on and so on and pretty soon, I was newly postpartum and weighing--oh, I can't even tell you, internets. It's shameful. Suffice it to say, it was a weight I never ever thought I'd see.
Losing that water weight was pretty quick and I thought I was slick as snot. It was all just going to fall off!** I faced reality and started getting serious about getting into some reasonable shape in July. Since then, I have lost 30 pounds, for a total of about 70 from my last pregnant weigh-in. The c-section shelf has not budged, shrunk or otherwise cooperated in any way.
So, to my point: I am flummoxed and I am now begging you. How much weight needs to go before this thing starts receding? Is there some kind of exercise or pill or prayer that helps? Anyone conquered this beast?
*It is so very nice to be at your heaviest weight ever when getting pregnant, yes? I would berate myself, but it's not like I thought it would actually work!

I've had 2 c-sections - and actually and minimal scar that has pretty much faded. 1st one turned 4 in September and my 2nd one is almost 15 months old. I've lost all my preggo weight, plus 15 lbs. I still have the "overhang". To be fair, I was fat before. I lost 36lbs before getting pregnant the 2nd time, so 50lbs in all. That's alot of weight to lose in a short time. I don't do "toning" which would probably help. Much like people who have WL surgeries, there is skin issue to deal with. The c-section doesn't make it easier.

I was very fit before my pregnancy, gained 50lb during it even though I rode my bike to work up to 32 weeks, am back down to 107, doing extensive yoga, have nice oblique definition BUT THE DAMN SHELF WON'T LEAVE!!! Other than plastic surgery (which is just not an option) I don't know what to do. Actually, it's like my whole adbomen shifted outwards. My belly button used to be the cutest little innie you ever say, but now it's prairie dog (halfway in/halfway out). I guess I will have to begin to love my scars as much as I love my tats.
hey ! i had two c-sections just about a year apart. before my first pregnancy i was a petite gal under 100 pounds. now, 2 kids and about 3-4 years later, my belly STILL looks at least 5 months pregnant and yes, there is the shelf!!! i'm so glad i heard that i'm not the only one! i'm tired of those celebrities that have c-sections and then go out the next month with their six-pack abs! if we could afford to have a tummy tuck right after our c-section, then we could be like them too.

I had my c-section 18 years ago. I was thin then, am not fat now, but hate to tell you the shelf is still there. It is less visible when I am very thin, but those days are long gone. It really doesn't matter, as the little baby has grown to a big man, and I wouldn't care if the scar was in the middle of my face, for all he is worth to me. Try Spankz - they are the best for holding it in.
I now have 3 teenagers, so it's been quite a while since my c-sections. I was of normal weight back then (5' tall, 98-128 pounds non-pregnant weight). I developed the shelf after the 2nd c-section, and it only got worse with the 3rd child. Then, a few years ago, I had to have a hysterectomy. The surgeon told me he basically gave me a 'mini tummy tuck' in order to help alleviate the severity of my shelf scarring...it did help slightly, but not all that much. I absolutely hate my large indention. Currently, I have very little abdominal fat, so I can easily feel the large amount of scar tissue immediately under the skin. I'd have a tummy tuck if I thought it would help rid me of this scar, but my fear is that it would only make it worse.

I finally found how to get rid of the overhang.
You are right, it has nothing to do with loosing weight. I was skinny during my pregnancy and still got it.
What I did to get rid of it, was massaging the incision from the 2nd month postpartum till the 4th. I used in the morning and afternoon lavender essential oil blended with vitamin E oil and then in the evening I massaged it again with Spectagel- silicon gel, which I left overnight.
It really gets rid of all the hard stuff inside the incision and smooths everything out!
